ShropMog Replace a 4/4 Two-Seater Chassis - Part 1 The Stripdown

It was October 2019. The 4/4 was put onto SORN and the chassis replacement was started. We started with a list of parts that needed replacing and had already sourced or placed orders for those.

You may have seen this done on the Wheeler Dealers TV programme. How difficult can it be? We went into this not expecting it to be anything like as easy as they showed it on the telly - and it wasn't.

When work started, the first phase was to methodically dismantle, examine the pieces as the car came apart and to decide what could be reused, what required replacement and what needed an upgrade.

[ Engine bay ]
The engine bay content had evolved over the years and was now quite cluttered. Note the intake air ducting and two lines for coolant.
[ Engine bay ]
Bonnets off showing air filter location.
[ Front end ]
Inner and outer front wings off. Front suspension dismantled.
[ Off side ]
Body tub removed.
[ Near side ]
[ Rear ]
Engine out, fuel tank out, prop-shaft removed.
[ Chassis ]
Done. The old chassis will be used to take some measurements.
