MSCC Folkmog Track Day - Snetterton

It starts in the December Miscellany with a Folkmog advert requesting members to register potential interest in a track day at the Snetterton Circuit. Once they can get about 20 interested members, the track day becomes financially viable. John Riley from Folkmog does the organising, assisted by Michele Jarvis from Wolf Performance, a local Morgan specialist company.

Motorsport Vision (MSV) operate the track day where the format consists of three separate groups. Participants need to do the online sign-on, in advance. Then watch the mandatory safety briefing videos no more than 24-hours before the day. This gives everyone information about the format of the day, the procedures, flags, lights, and rules on the track. It is all very professional with emphasis on safely enjoying the day. Timing is strictly forbidden so it usually possible to extend road insurance cover to include the track, subject to an increase of policy excess.

At the circuit, participants need to sign on and are given a wristband to indicate their group. There is an in-person briefing with plenty of advice about how the day will run, attendance gets you a second wrist band. The key points are that overtaking is permitted only on straights and only on the left. The sessions are 20-minutes each, one for each club in the hour and a break for lunch 1 untill 2. There should be time for seven sessions in the day which is very generous, great value for money and well over 100 track miles if you participate in all of them.

The Snetterton 300 circuit is three miles long, two main straights, two hairpins, some fast sweeping bends and the famous Bomb Hole. Marshals check your car stickers and wristbands (driver and passenger) every time a car leaves the pit lane. The first session starts with three laps in convoy behind a course car, showing everyone the optimal line. It's then back into the pit lane before the lights go green and we are out for the rest of the session.
